Wine Shipping and Policies
We ship to:
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana (currently does have dry counties), Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
Alaska and Hawaii are shipped Fedex 2nd Day Air Only. We cannot offer our free shipping to these states. We will contact you with shipping information to give your AIR shipping charge, at which time you may confirm your order, or cancel.
Sales Tax
Tax varies from state to state and is subject to change. Current tax rate for your state is available upon checkout. If state tax has changed, your invoice will reflect current tax.
Carriers and Acceptance
Standard deliveries are handled by UPS or Fedex Ground, and require an adult signature with proper ID at delivery. We suggest acceptance at a business or neighbor if daytime residential delivery is a problem. With both carriers, there will be a notice if delivery was attempted. At this time you can contact their customer service and either set a new delivery day, or pick up package at their location near your address. If wine is returned to us, there will be a restocking charge of 15%. We cannot ship wine or items that include wine to PO Boxes or APO/FPO addresses.
Shipping Time.
The alcohol industry is the most tightly regulated in the country, and each state has its own shipping laws. Desire for tax revenue, and pressure from state wholesalers trying to restrict your right to have a legal product shipped to you from out of state, means these laws are changing almost weekly. Many of the states we service now require routing via licensed partners. Therefore we strongly urge our customers to expect a 10-14 days delivery time (except Illinois). We do not ship on weekends or major (carrier) holidays. Additionally, under extreme weather conditions, we reserve the right to delay the release of shipments to ensure product quality. If an item on your order isn’t available for immediate shipment, we will notify you and offer a substitution recommendation, or provide the option of holding your order until all items are available for shipment.
Shipping Cost.
This isn’t just fine print, this is the good part! Any ground shipment of 6 bottles or more is free! Minimum order 3 bottles, orders of 3 to 5 bottles will have a $15 shipping charge. If you order 3-5 bottles and pick the incorrect shipping cost, we will adjust the charge and ship your order. Unlike other websites who wait to slam you with unstated charges and fees until your order is complete, at Drink Better Wine, just add tax where applicable!
Invoices
Directly after your online order, you will receive an email confirmation. There is a link to give feedback, in the form of a survey, we hope you will take a moment and let us know how we’re doing. When your order is charged, your statement will show Shermer Specialties. When the order ships you will receive an invoice/packing list – including carrier tracking number - by email.
If your shipment is a gift, rest assured they will not see any invoice in the package. We do suggest adding a gift card to accompany your wine gift!
A Note on Shipping Charges on Your Invoice: Invoice formats must legally vary from state to state. Some of these require displaying shipping charges. If you qualify for free shipping, this will not be part of your final invoice total. If you see otherwise, please let us know immediately and we’ll check it out for you.
