$46(free s/h) Chateau de Bligny is a small, family owned winery located southwest of Epernay along the famous A5 motorway. The vineyards that have been supplying this property with grapes since the 12th Century. Once owned by the Cistercian Abbey of Clairvaux, the winery has gone through a lot of changes but the Castle from the 1770's still remains as does its underground cellar from the same period. Bligny's Grande Reserve is a 50-50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. While the nose is still a little closed on this wine and waiting to open, the palate exhibits a very refined character of ripe fruit and well balanced acidity. This is a Champagne made to enjoy for all celebratory occasions and will also pair well with caviar, fresh oysters and succulent crab legs.
