This is a deep, rich, smoky almost black wine with perfect tannin levels. Almost black on color, oak aged, and wonderful. Wine has been produced on the Couranconne property since 1000AD, when Carthusian Nuns tended the fertile vineyards in the Rhone Valley. The domain changed hands when the Bishop of Orange annexed the vineyards in 1735 after a Papal Decree. After the French Revolution in 1789, the property was taken away from the church and was sold to Sir Correnson, Lord of Pecoulette. Today the vineyards are owned by the Meffre family who blends traditional practices (they still use a wooden hand press) with modern technology. The Seguret commune is located on foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail Mountains, where the Mediterranean climate with cooling Mistral winds makes it a perfect place for the Grenache grape. The ‘La Fiole du Chevalier d'Elbene’ is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre and will be the perfect companion to roasted meat, game or herb marinated lamb. Awarded the Bronze medal at the Decanter Magazine World Wine Awards in 2009.
