$34(no S/H) Made from 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, this wine from the tiny, southern Rhone appellation has a rich red robe, plus 12 months of oak aging which provide the nose with an elegant cedar and cigar box aroma intertwined with a bit of warm bacon. Full fruit is dominant and delivered as the Grenache and Syrah is a true match made-in-heaven. Domaine de Grapillon has been in the Chauvet family for over 200 years, which is immortalized by the '1806' date of inception featured on the label. Winning their first Gold Medal in 1893 at the Concours General Agricole in Paris, awards for each of the winery's quality vintages haven't stopped since. Today the Domaine is headed by Celine Chauvet, who took over after her father's reign of more than 30 years. Her careful attention to detail and methodical production has kept the family name in great standing, especially after tasting her 2005 Gigondas. It's spicy finish makes the Gigondas a perfect partner for roasted lamb or rotisserie chicken. Silver Medal winner at Concours des Vins de Macon 2007! Plus 4 Stars from Decanter magazine and 91 points from Wine Spectator.
